Our Friday Night Freakouts at The Frida series continues with a special presentation of Warner Bros.’ painstakingly remastered 4K restoration of William Friedkin’s chilling extended Director’s Cut of the already petrifying 1973 classic THE EXORCIST!
Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn), a visiting actress in Washington, D.C., notices dramatic and dangerous changes in the behavior and physical make-up of her 12-year-old daughter, Regan (Linda Blair). When science and all logic fail her, she turns to a young priest at nearby Georgetown University, Father Karras (Jason Miller), who has been struggling with diminishing faith while dealing with his inability to do anything about his mother’s terminal sickness. As Regan’s condition takes a turn for the harrowing worst, they turn to a frail, elderly priest, Father Merrin (Max von Sydow), who soon recognizes the necessity for a show-down with a demonic enemy he may have met before.
Recognized by most media lists and horror fans alike as the Scariest Film of All Time, The Exorcist is at once one an unsettling and terrifying horror film, a staggering feat of impressive special visual and (Oscar-winning) sound effects, and an incredibly powerful and surprisingly provocative drama, earning author/screenwriter William Peter Blatty an Academy Award for his unique and unforgettable examination on faith.
Presented by OC Weekly's Friday Night Freakouts at The Frida.
